KH remodel discussions. Many in the congregation wanted to be conservative in spending so excess money could be sent to worldwide building fund. Just prior to this time the KM had an article about how the funds were distributed and that there were congregations in other countries that didn't have a place to meet, they were sitting on crates out in the forest. So why not save locally, not borrow from WT, so WT could use those excess funds to help in these poorer countries as was indicated in the KM article. The majority of the elder body railroaded the meeting, pushed the PO out of the way, told us we were selfish for thinking about our brothers in poorer countries, because after all "they were used to sitting on boxes" to quote one of the elders. We also heard around this time from JWs in another state, that in California, if the KH wasn't the nicest building in the neighborhood, the JWs couldn't effectively witness to the wealthy, and were denied access to closed gated communities. The CO visited the congregation around this same time (originiated in California, Michael Jackson's congregation) dressed in his Armani suit, and forced the KH remodel to go through, ignoring legal parlimentary procedure (required by this state - KH building is operated by a corporation). The greedy, showy display didn't fit with what we had read about the humble beginnings of Christianity. WT was looking more like the Catholic church that WT had condemned for fleecing the flock. It was evident that the meek and mild were not as important as money and power. It was a beginning of our eyes being opened.

The straw that broke the camel's back
by Satans little helper inyou know, the last little thing that blew your patience out of the water and forced you to face up to the fact that you were in a cult that doesn't believe in the bible so much as it believes in it's own power structure?.
for me it was beards.
stupid i know and possibly the most trivial of things to be 'stumbled' over but to me it was the epitomy of what was wrong with the witnesses - arbitrary rules poking their noses into the lives of people where they had no business.

Were You Considered A Spiritual Person In The Congregation?
by minimus inone of the biggest reasons many can't get over the fact that my wife, daughter and i left the "truth" is because we were considered "spiritual models" in the hall as well as circuit.
we knew everybody from cos and bethel heavies to "prominent" elders and families within the organization.
we were on many circuit parts and i had the "privilege" (

As a teenager, summers were spent 'temporary pioneering' (baptized at 14, so that was a lot of summer spent in service). Dad was Ministry School Overseer and book study conductor, so my sis and I were called on to fill in for talks at a moment's notice, answer at bookstudy when no one else raised their hands. As a young married person, many told me I was the perfect example of a Christian woman...i studied my WT in depth (maybe that's why I saw the writing between the lines?). Rocky was always the practical, helpful person. The elders gave him the 'do-not-call' list to check on since he could talk to a lot of the folk in the community who hated the witnesses. But the same elders treated Rocky like a low-life since he didn't 'take the lead' in service, didn't like giving parts on the meeting, rarely answered. There were even some who had him unofficially 'marked' because he always spoke his mind and loved a good discussion (he says he likes to argue).

Last week the CO visited the local congregation. He and one of the elders (one of the only ones who we consider a decent guy) made an appointment to visit Rocky while I was at work. It was a short visit, friendly...didn't get the results they wanted. They didn't invite us to Memorial. It's okay, tho...I'm finally over the worry that will strike me for not going! - Mrs Rocky

Re: Voting
I recall a conversation with my sister after the WT article on voting was published. In her congregation, shortly after the article, a part was given by the CO which discussed voting. My impression was that voting is only permissable in countries where you risk losing your life by not making the trip to the polling place...and Witnesses were encouraged to vote neutrally even with that. So, in the USA you risk being DF'd if you register to vote as we are not at risk of losing our lives. -

So what one thing INTERESTING happened to you in the last 24 hours.....
by ScoobySnax inok freeze frame today.......out of all the interactions with others and goings-on, was there anything remotely interesting that happened to you today?
today is probably a typical day, in your probable and predictable all too short life.... this 24 hours was probably similar to yesterday and maybe similar to tommorow.
but i want to know what was the most interesting thing that happened personally to you.

Scooby - thank you for your cautions for safety and concern. I wish you knew where my head/heart are right now with respects to the supernatural. I have yet to be given scientific proof of the existence of either good or evil spirits. My first visit in the night by nightmares happened shortly after we received the blue "Truth" book, which had graphic details about spiritism. I believe my nightmares were fueled by the power of suggestion, super scare tactics of WT on the mind of an innocent child (I was only 10), and the power of mind over matter.
I would be very interested in talking with anyone who has real documentable scientific, replicatable proof, of the existence of the supernatural, evil or good. I no longer fear the night. (and I don't want to hijack your thread....this is so interesting seeing what things happened to people in the last 24 hours! so PM me if you want to continue this discussion.) Mrs R

Scooby - thanks for the warning, but stopped having nightmares after I stopped going to KH. Used to have full body involved nightmares, where it felt like someone was on top of me smothering me. I would wake up screaming in the night...scared the tar out of my husband. They happened regularly from the time I started regularly attending meetings at age 10, until a year after I stopped going. I've been to this Shaman before, she is a friend of mind since before she became a Shaman. I have not been 'visited by what is bad in the night.' She is very careful to make sure we bring positive energy in after we expell the negative. Mostly she uses guided imagery, it's not the free floating 'empty your mind' kind of stuff...I am in control of my thoughts the entire time. But thank you for your concern!

Be careful! It might kill him! He has been "don't ask, don't tell about our 'spiritual' condition." Altho my sis (who hasn't spoken to me for a couple of weeks since she had a big blow up with our oldest daughter about JW matters) tells me Dad tells her that Rocky is evil and is leading me and the girls astray! LOL
